COSRX Advanced Snail 92 is the Snail 96 essence thickened into a moisturizer — 92% snail secretion filtrate plus emollients and occlusives that seal hydration in, so it works as your actual cream rather than a layer. It’s the snail product dry skin should reach for. The one important catch: unlike the 96 essence, the 92 cream is not fungal-acne-safe.

Is it worth it? (the short answer)

If you love snail mucin and want it as your moisturizer, yes — the 92 gives you the same hero ingredient in a richer, sealing base. The honest catch is who it’s not for.

What it is and how it works

The 92 is, almost literally, the Snail 96 essence thickened into a cream. It keeps the same humectant core — 92% snail secretion filtrate (glycoproteins, hyaluronic acid, naturally occurring glycolic acid, allantoin), plus sodium hyaluronate, panthenol and allantoin — and adds the emollients and occlusives a moisturizer needs: caprylic/capric triglyceride, cetearyl olivate, sorbitan olivate, cetearyl alcohol and stearic acid.

That extra layer is the whole point: where the essence hydrates but needs a cream on top, the 92 hydrates and seals, so it can be your last skincare step. For dry skin, that’s a simpler, more comfortable routine.

What it is not: a barrier-repair cream in the ceramide sense (it’s snail-and-occlusive, not a lipid trio), and not a treatment for acne or wrinkles.

What the internet really says

The community treats the 92 cream and 96 essence as a classic duo: essence to hydrate, cream to seal. The 92 earns praise for soft, plump, well-moisturized skin and for simplifying a routine into one snail step — dry-skin users especially rate it.

The recurring negatives matter here more than usual:

Our read: as a snail moisturizer for dry-to-normal, non-FA-prone skin, it’s a comfortable, good-value pick. Oily or fungal-acne-prone skin should default to the 96 essence instead. (User reports, not guarantees — your skin may differ.)

Who it’s for, by skin type

Skin typeVerdict
Dry / normalGreat — snail hydration that seals
CombinationGood — may prefer the lighter 96 essence
OilySkip — use the 96 essence
Fungal-acne-proneSkip — cetearyl alcohol isn’t FA-safe
SensitiveUsually fine — fragrance-free; patch-test for protein/allergy
Shellfish/dust-mite allergyPatch-test first

How to use it (and where it fits)

Use the 92 as your moisturizer — the last step at night, or before sunscreen in the morning — after cleansing, toner and any serums. If you also use the 96 essence, apply the essence first on damp skin, then the 92 cream to seal. Thin layers and full absorption reduce pilling under SPF.

For barrier repair specifically, snail is a hydration step rather than a lipid rebuild — layer or alternate it with a ceramide barrier cream, and see the fragrance-free Korean routine.

FAQ

Is COSRX Snail 92 worth it?

If you want snail mucin as your actual moisturizer for dry-to-normal skin, yes — it’s the 96 essence in a richer, sealing base. If you’re oily, fungal-acne-prone, or want a light layer, the 96 essence is the better buy.

What’s the difference between COSRX Snail 92 and Snail 96?

The 96 is a lightweight essence (96% snail mucin) you layer under moisturizer; the 92 is a cream (92% snail mucin) with added emollients and occlusives that works as the moisturizer itself. Oily/combo skin tends to prefer the 96; dry skin the 92.

Is COSRX Snail 92 fungal-acne safe?

No. Unlike the 96 essence, the 92 cream contains cetearyl alcohol, a fatty alcohol that can feed Malassezia, so it isn’t considered fungal-acne-safe. Reactions vary by person, but FA-prone skin should patch-test or choose the essence.

Can COSRX Snail 92 replace my moisturizer?

Yes — that’s the point. It’s an all-in-one cream with occlusives that seal hydration, so it can be your last skincare step (before SPF in the morning). The 96 essence cannot.

Does COSRX Snail 92 pill?

It can — it contains carbomer, like the essence, and snail mucin is prone to balling up under sunscreen or silicone-heavy products. Thin layers and full absorption help.

Should I get the 92 cream or the 96 essence?

Choose the 92 cream if your skin is dry and you want snail as your moisturizer; choose the 96 essence if you’re oily/combination, fungal-acne-prone, or want a light layer under a separate cream.
